Winter is usually the season that wreaks havoc on one’s feet.  Whether you are a boy or a girl, it is not the season for feet.  Our feet are usually last to be prepped for summer.  But how to get soft feet for summer?

Yes, there are ways to achieve this.  Follow the following guidelines for quick and easy, beautifully soft summer feet.

How to Get Soft Feet? - Tools Of The Trade

On this journey to soft feet we will be requiring some tools to get the job done right:

Olive oil is one of great moisturizers

  • Exfoliation products
  • Foot file / Pumice stone
  • Moisturizer
  • Petroleum
  • Jelly
  • Foot mask
  • Paraffin wax
  • Nail cutter
  • Cuticle remover
  • Cotton socks
  • Talcum / foot powder

When buying or creating your own products (if you are feeling creative), take note of the following:

  • Aloe, Olive oil and Coconut oil are great moisturizers
  • Lemon juice and honey are natural remedies for the removal of dead skin

All the above products are available from any drug store / retail store.  After your shopping trip, we can now get to work on softening those feet…

How to Get Soft Feet: 5 Steps

Step 1:  Soaking & Scrubbing

Use pumice stone to scrub away calluses and dead skin from your feet

Before starting anything, it is always good to soak and properly clean your feet.  Try to use warm not hot water for this process.  When soaking your feet, you can also give them a good scrubbing down with a luxurious scrubbing cream.  A pumice stone or foot file is also handy to scrub away calluses and dead skin from your feet.  Just make sure to rinse the pumice stone in water before scrubbing.

But please ensure that you use products specifically designed for the skin.  You can severely damage and / infect your feet with any other products.  And be very wary of foot razors.

Step 2: Drying

Always ensure that you properly dry your feet.  Nobody wants to have a nasty fungal infection on their feet due to unwanted moisture.

Step 3: Trimming

When your feet are nice and dry, take the time to do some trimming.  Do a proper nail cut.  Also remove all old nail polish.  When using nail polish, leave about a week open between painting those lovely colors.  Nothing looks worse than yellow nails stained from an overdose of nail polish.

Use some oils to soften the cuticles, after which you can push back those cuticles.

Step 4: Moisturizing

Paraffin wax can also be applied and left on the feet overnight

After drying and trimming, liberally apply a moisturizer to your feet.  Petroleum Jelly / Paraffin wax can also be applied and left on the feet overnight.  This moisturizes the feet whilst you sleep.  Just remember to wear slippers or cotton socks after this, or else you will go sliding through the house.

Step 5:  The Day After…

The next morning, make sure to wipe off excess lotion from the feet / remove the wax. Usually after the first day you will start to notice your feet feeling softer. For more hardy, cracked hills and dry feet you might need to do this quite regularly.

On the long term, you can also invest in talcum powder / foot powder for use in your shoes.  This tends to keep the feet dry and combats bad foot odor.

Long Term Solutions To Get Soft Feet

Keeping feet soft and beautiful should be a year round process, not just an emergency summer fix.  Here are a few basic things to keep in mind for happy, healthy feet:

Always use moisturizer for swimming

  • To keep feet dry and combat sweat – use talcum powder in your shoes / wear cotton socks.
  • Take care when swimming – always dry your feet properly afterwards and use moisturizer rich in tea tree oil. These oils combat potential foot fungus.
  • Protect your feet when out and about in public places. E.g. when walking about in a crowded place, rather where closed shoes to avoid your toes being accidentally stomped on.
  • When buying shoes, consider opting for something very breathable and comfortable. Nothing is as worse as your feet sloshing around in the sweat that accumulated in your shoes, or walking around with sore, cramped feet.
  • Talking about sweat – excessive sweating can also lead to friction and blisters forming on your feet.

Conclusion

This routine above can be followed on a daily basis to maintain those nice and soft feet.

Having beautiful feet should not only be limited to catwalk models, but is something privileged to everyone, if done right.
