How to Blouse Boots: Everything You Need to Know
how to blouse boots? Do you use rubber bands or garter to do it? If you are part of the military or marine service, you know how important it is to blouse your boots. It is part of the regulations being observed in every service member when they are in their service uniforms.

More than just looking “cool” or making it your fashion statement, blousing boots is important especially for service members. It prevents crawlies, insects or debris from getting inside their legs. Since they are always out and on the move, they are also required to blouse their boots so that it won’t slow them down at any possible situations. Likewise, it keeps cold air from puffing up the pant leg while keeping the unconsumed heat, especially during cold weather.

Also, blousing their boots give service members that neat look while they are out, performing important missions.

We know that for some of us, the struggle is real when it comes to proper blousing. Basically, “blousing” refers to tucking the ankle holes and creating a ballooned look on each of your legs just above the boots. Let us help you learn the proper and easy way of boot blousing.

What You Will Need?

Various methods can be followed in blousing boots. These materials are optional as some may feel like using it however, some people feel uncomfortable.

  • Boot blousers
  • Straps or laces
  • Rubber band
  • Tie strings
  • Garters

These materials all work in terms of appearance and keeping your pants tucked. You can simply tie the drawstring. Different methods work for another person. While some prefer using garters or bands, others do not want excess straps.

If you opt to choose blousing strap or tie string, consider your leg size. Tight blousing strap can prevent proper blood flow which will result in more serious circulation problems from long years of using it.

Don’t get confused as boot blousers are also called blousing band and boot band, this elastic material is often used in military uniforms to keep loose fabrics out. Even if you are not part of military service, you can try using these methods to give your look its edgy and rugged vibe.

How to Blouse Boots

Blousing at the top of your boot is the most common way to do it.

1. First, wear your socks, and then pull your pant leg up over it. We prefer using mid-calf or over the calf length of socks as it gently snugs the leg. Still, it is your choice. Do not tie your boots yet and keep the laces loose. It will be easier if you will sit on a chair or the edge of the bed.

2. If you prefer not to use rubber bands or blousers, just pull up the pant leg and tuck it against your back leg. Make sure to smooth it out to even out creases and folds. Now, pull the front part of the pant leg to place the excess of the pant leg in front of your boot. Tuck it flat as possible as you can.

3. You can start lacing or snug the laces but be sure that your pant leg is flat around your leg. Remember do not tighten it too much to avoid blood flow restriction. You can pull up the pant leg from 2-6 inches above the boot as you wish. You have to consider the length of your pant in doing this so it will just look right when you pull it.

4. If you will use boot blouser, put on your pants the usual way. Put the boot blouse over your foot up to the lower calf or above the combat boot. Pull the string around your leg and make sure that it is perfectly placed on top of the boot.

5. Tie the blousing string and tuck it neatly underneath the pant cuff. Now pull the excess material to create a nice ballooned look on top of the boot. Repeat the same procedure on the other leg. Spread the material evenly around your leg to have the best presentation.

6. If you will be using a rubber band or drawstring, reach down and slide the drawstring or the rubber band at the ankle cuff. Pull it to tighten the cuff then tie it securely. Make sure that it is above the boot’s top rim. Spread the pant leg to remove crease and folds. Cover the rubber band or drawstring by pulling down the excess materials of your pant leg.

Blousing BDU Pants

Most BDU pants (Battle Dress Uniform) already have a string to make blousing easier. The struggle here is how to keep the blousing stay put. We recommend you to use a blouse band as its material is thicker and wide enough to hold the pants.

After placing the band around your calf, lace up your boots. Be sure that it snugs right. Fold the pants’ cuffs until it is below the top of your boot. Pull the band way and push the cuff under. Your pants should lie flat after you fix them to the blousers. Pull over the pant leg on top of your boot.

One common mistake is putting the knot inside the boot top. This will be uncomfortable on your part. When tucking the laces, ensure that the loops won’t get loose or get caught with things. It is normal that your pant leg will sag a bit but that is what we are aiming, to have that bloused appearance.

Conclusion

Service members are being regulated in wearing their BDU or military battle dress. It requires them to bloused their cuffs and have it tucked in their combat boots and you now know what are the reasons behind this regulation.

For some, the old fashioned method on how to blouse boots works well. It doesn’t require you to have longer pant legs or the elastic materials mentioned above. We hope you liked our simple tutorial on how to blouse your boots with or without elastic bands or boot blousers.
